- Your private Istanbul shore excursion begins when your guide meets you at the cruise terminal. The starting time and order of the visits will be planned around your ship’s arrival and departure schedule. You will then travel by private vehicle to Istanbul’s historic Old City.
- The first visit is Hagia Sophia, one of the city’s most important monuments. Originally built as a Byzantine cathedral in the sixth century, it later served as an Ottoman mosque and is once again an active mosque today. Your guide will explain the building’s architecture, mosaics and its changing role throughout Istanbul’s history.
- You will then continue to the Blue Mosque, officially known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. Built in the early seventeenth century, the mosque is recognised for its six minarets, large central dome and blue Iznik tiles. As it remains an active place of worship, the visit will be arranged outside prayer times.
- Next, you will walk through the Roman Hippodrome, once the centre of public life and ceremonial events in Byzantine Constantinople. Here, you will see monuments including the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column and the Walled Obelisk.
- The tour continues to Topkapi Palace, the administrative and residential centre of the Ottoman Empire for almost four centuries. With skip-the-line admission tickets, you will avoid the ticket-purchase queue and enter with your guide. Please note that security checks are compulsory and cannot be skipped. Inside the palace, you will visit the main courtyards and selected exhibition areas while learning about the Ottoman sultans, palace life and imperial administration.
- After Topkapi Palace, you will visit Caferaga Madrasa, a sixteenth-century building designed by Mimar Sinan. Today, it houses workshops where traditional Turkish arts such as calligraphy, ceramics and marbling are practised. The exact visit may depend on workshop opening hours.
- The final scheduled stop is the Grand Bazaar, one of Istanbul’s oldest and largest covered markets. Your guide will lead you through part of its network of streets and explain its history and traditional crafts. There are no compulsory shopping visits, and you are not required to make a purchase.
- A lunch break can be arranged during the tour according to your available time and preferences. Lunch and drinks are not included in the tour price.
- At the end of the tour, your private driver will take you back to the cruise terminal.
