Private Classical Istanbul City Tour
- We will pick you up from your hotel in Istanbul and drive to the Old City, where many of the city’s best-known Byzantine and Ottoman monuments are located. The order of the visits may change depending on opening hours, prayer times, traffic and local conditions.
- We begin at Hagia Sophia, one of Istanbul’s most important historic buildings. Built as a Byzantine cathedral in the sixth century, it later became an Ottoman mosque and is now used as a mosque again. Your guide will explain the building’s architecture, mosaics and the different periods that shaped its history.
- From there, we continue to the Blue Mosque, officially known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. It is known for its six minarets, large central dome and blue Iznik tiles. Since it is an active place of worship, the visit is arranged outside prayer times.
- The next stop is the Roman Hippodrome, once the centre of public ceremonies, chariot races and political life in Byzantine Constantinople. Here, you will see the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column and the Walled Obelisk.
- We then visit Topkapi Palace, which served as the administrative and residential centre of the Ottoman Empire for almost four centuries. Skip-the-line tickets can be arranged in advance, so you do not need to wait at the ticket office. Mandatory security checks still apply. Inside the palace, your guide will explain Ottoman court life, imperial administration and the main collections displayed in the complex.
- After Topkapi Palace, we stop at Caferaga Madrasa, a sixteenth-century building associated with Mimar Sinan. Today, it is used for traditional Turkish arts such as calligraphy, ceramics and marbling. The visit may depend on workshop opening hours.
- A lunch break can be arranged during the day according to your preferences. Lunch and drinks are not included in the tour price.
- The final stop is the Grand Bazaar, one of Istanbul’s oldest and largest covered markets. Your guide will take you through part of its historic streets and explain the bazaar’s place in the city’s commercial life. There are no compulsory shopping visits, and you are under no obligation to buy anything.
- At the end of the tour, we will drive you back to your hotel.
